Capture +56% More Orders With Pre-Populated Checkout Fields

Let’s talk about how you can save time and capture more sales when you pre-populate your checkout page with SamCart.

Every second counts on your checkout page! So let’s look at how you can help customers spend less time typing, and capture up to +56% more sales by pre-populating your checkout page…

Pre-Populate Fields To Dropkick Cart Abandonment

I have a question for you. How long does it take to complete your checkout page?

Open your checkout page, and see how long it takes to complete an order. I’m going to bet it takes a lot longer than you think it should.

Remember, this is what your customers have to do every single time you make a sale. You cannot make money without someone filling out this page.

So if you can find a way to speed up the process, you will take a chunk out of your cart abandonment. Lower cart abandonment, boost your sales. It’s as simple as that.

Intro To URL Parameters

All SamCart checkout pages now listen for a few URL parameters. URL parameters seems like a big, technical, scary word. But stick with me, it’s actually pretty simple stuff.

Attatch the following URL parameters to the end of any checkout page URL. Whatever text comes after the equals sign will be pre-populated into different fields on the checkout page.

  • First Name: first_name=
  • Last Name: last_name=
  • Email: email=
  • Phone Number: phone_number=

So if a customer clicks on the link below, the first name field will be pre-populated with Bruce.

You can add more URL parameters (separated by an &) to also pre-populate the last name field with Wayne.

See, URL parameters is pretty simple stuff. Now let’s talk about how to easily add in URL parameters for a whole bunch of people at one time.

Plug & Play Merge Codes

You can easily pre-populate your checkout pages for a big group of people by using “Merge Codes”.

Merge codes are available when you send an email from ConvertKit, Ontraport, InfusionSoft, AWeber, ActiveCampaign, Hubspot, MailChimp, GetResponse, or any other email marketing tool that SamCart integrates with.

Merge Codes SamCart Pre-Populate Fields

So instead of having to create unique links to each individual subscriber, you can use a merge code and let your email marketing service automatically pull in each subscribers first name, last name, email, and/or phone number.

Makes life a heck of a lot easier on you! Check out how to use merge codes for your email marketing tool, and partner them with the URL parameters we listed above.

Your visitors will be landing on a SamCart checkout page, pre-populated with their information, in no time.

Visitors will spend even less time filling out your checkout page, and completing more orders than ever.

  • Fantastic! When using merge codes, do we just add the personalization tags from, in my case, Active Campaign after the = sign?

    • Scott

Bingo, that’s exactly right Jack. So your URL might look like this right before you click send… Code]&last_name=[Merge Code]&email=[Merge Code]

Use whatever merge codes ActiveCampaign makes available to you! Plug them in right after the =, and each subscriber will their own info pulled right in.

      • Renee Lamb

Hi, where can you find merge codes for ActiveCampaign?

  • What about using the pop-up checkout feature? Can we autofill variables somehow on that as well?

  • Bryan Clark

Hi, we use ConvertKit, But where do we find the merge codes?

  • Jason Timothy Ward

Is there a workaround if I am sending people first to leadpages sale page and THEN to Samcart?

In my situation, I am giving 3 tier options.

    • Hey @jasontimothyward:disqus right now the only way to pass the info to the checkout is to email people directly there. If you have (or know) a programmer, you might be able to add steps in between and still get the data to pass through.

      • Jason Timothy Ward

Thanks Brian, I’ll be experimenting with this feature!

  • Kevin Geary

Excellent! HOWEVER — We need merge codes for MemberMouse as well (in-product upsell opportunities). And also a merge code for auto-applying a coupon code?
